Designed to compensate for thermal expansion and contraction
Zierick Manufacturing Corporation, a leading provider of PCB connectors and assembly equipment, offers the SMT Z-Axis Compliant Pin. Designed for automation using existing pick and place equipment with the Surf-Shooter SMT ™ Continuous Strip Feeder feeder system, Z-Axis Compliant Pins provide axial compliancy to compensate for thermal expansion and contraction.
In addition to the superior flexibility of the pins, other benefits include geographical stability, high locational tolerances, and the ability to randomly place individual pins. Z-Axis Compliant Pins can be placed on .100" x .120" on-center applications, making them ideal for parallel PCB stacking. The unique design takes advantage of capillary action, providing superior solder joint strength, and ensuring that the pins are reliably perpendicular.
Z-Axis Compliant Pins have been designed and manufactured to accommodate production in a continuous reel format. The reel is placed on Zierick's Surf-Shooter SMT ™ Continuous Strip Feeder, and can be positioned on existing pick and place equipment in the same slot that was designed for a tape feeder. Pins come in 0.025" square by 0.375" high Copper and feature a 95/5 Tin/Lead over Copper finish. A Lead-free Tin finish will be available in early 2005.
